Google updates spam policy in Europe to avoid antitrust fine

Google has updated its spam policy in an attempt to stave off an antitrust fine in the European Union. Starting August 30, manual actions taken under Google’s site reputation policy to demote websites in Search results will not apply to users in the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein, which together form the European Economic Area (EEA). To be sure, the policy will remain unchanged outside the European Economic Area.
