Meta accelerates custom AI chip roadmap as compute demand surges

According to reports, Meta plans to begin production of a custom AI chip code-named Iris in September as part of a wider effort to expand computing capacity and reduce dependence on external processors. Reuters reported that the chip forms part of Meta’s MTIA programme and complements, rather than replaces, GPUs supplied by companies such as Nvidia and AMD. Meta has not commented on the reported September schedule.
