Judge Blocks Trump Administration Expansion of SAVE Verification Database

A federal judge on June 22 blocked the Trump administration’s expansion of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, ruling that federal agencies unlawfully combined social security and voter registration data to conduct citizenship checks for voter-roll reviews. The ruling stems from a March 2025 executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to expand SAVE, a database originally designed to help federal, state, tribal, and local agencies verify cit
