The report ‘Algorithms of Evasion: The Rise of AI-Enabled Proliferation Financing’ published by the Royal Joint Institute of Military Studies (RUSI), a British defense and security think tank, states that both governments and private companies must quickly strengthen their detection and response systems as sanctions evasion and proliferation finance (PF) evolve from the AI-assisted phase to the AI-enabled phase over the next 3 to 5 years. The report defined proliferation finance as the act of using funds or financial services to acquire, develop, or trade weapons of mass destruction (WMD). “North Korea and Iran are currently developing and operating AI models to support sanctions evasion activities,” the report said.
