Kenya Court Rejects Bid to Suspend Ruling Nullifying Safaricom Stake Sale

Kenya’s Court of Appeal on 13 October refused to suspend the High Court judgment that cancelled the government’s sale of a 15% stake in Safaricom to Vodacom. Justices Luka Kimaru, Johnson Okello and Kathurima M’Inoti rejected applications by the government and Vodacom, finding that they had not met the legal threshold for the orders they sought. Until the appeal is heard, the sale stays void, and the shares are, in law, the government’s again.
