Microsoft Maia 300 AI Chip Targets Nvidia Dependence

Microsoft has unveiled its third-generation custom artificial intelligence chip, Maia 300, as the company prepares to expand its in-house computing infrastructure in 2027 in a bid to lower AI operating costs and reduce its dependence on Nvidia. Announced on Monday, October 12, Maia 300 is designed to become the primary AI inference system for Microsoft’s products and services, supporting workloads across its Copilot assistants, software development tools and Azure cloud platform.
