Mbps vs. MB/s: What’s the Difference in Internet Speeds?

Navigating internet plans and networking equipment often means wading through technical jargon, but few terms cause as much confusion as Megabits per second (Mbps) and Megabytes per second (MB/s). While both metrics measure data transfer rates, they represent completely different scales and use cases. Confusing a bit with a byte will lead you to miscalculate your actual internet speed by a factor of eight.
