Why data work is one step behind on AI

One of the reasons programmers “got” agentic AI first, in the sense that it could meaningfully alter their productivity and effectiveness, is because code could be checked. They turn agents loose on a function, read the diff, run the tests, and decide whether to keep it. Output comes back to them in a form they already know how to read, so trusting the machine didn’t necessarily require a ton of faith.
