When India celebrates, payment infrastructure cannot afford to rest

India’s festive season is, among other things, the most concentrated stress test that payment infrastructure faces each year. In the weeks spanning Navratri, Diwali and Christmas, transaction volumes across ATMs, card networks, point-of-sale terminals, UPI channels and digital banking platforms rise sharply and simultaneously. Purchases are concentrated within compressed timeframes.
