Google Docs Adds Native Markdown File Editing, With Rendered .md Previews in Google Drive

Google is rolling out native Markdown support in Google Docs, letting users view, edit, and collaborate on .md and .markdown files without converting them to the Docs format, according to an October 5, 2026 post on the Google Workspace Updates blog. Google Drive also gains rendered previews for Markdown files. The feature is available to all Google Workspace customers and to users with personal Google accounts.
