MACRA and Blantyre City Assembly Explore AI-Powered Smart City Surveillance

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has engaged the Blantyre City Assembly on a proposed Smart City Surveillance Initiative aimed at using technology and communications infrastructure to improve security and urban management in the city. MACRA Director General Dr Mayamiko Nkoloma said the proposed project will involve the installation of AI-powered smart cameras capable of detecting and identifying objects, interpreting incidents and providing real-time surveillance support.
