Meta challenges Ofcom’s decision to put WhatsApp, Instagram under UK’s strictest online safety rules

Meta has filed a legal challenge against UK regulator Ofcom, disputing its decision to classify WhatsApp and Instagram as Category 1 services under the Online Safety Act. The Guardian reported that Meta argues some of these obligations are not appropriate for private messaging. The core dispute Meta’s legal team appealed the decision to place the two platforms in a category with additional responsibilities last week.
