UPI hits record 24.51 billion transactions in August, but growth uneven across digital payment rails

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) processed 24.51 billion transactions worth Rs 29.82 lakh crore in August 2026, marking its highest monthly transaction volume to date, according to the National Payments Corporation of India ( NPCI ). Key observations Increase over July: Transaction volume increased 3.6% from July’s 23.66 billion, while transaction value declined 0.2% from Rs 29.88 lakh crore. Compared with August 2025, transaction volume rose 22%, while transaction value increased 20%.
