Govt paves way for UPI MDR on transactions above Rs 2,000

The government has paved the way for the reintroduction of the Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on high-value UPI transactions after notifying a Rs 2,000 threshold for fee-free payments . In a Gazette notification dated September 14, the Finance Ministry specified transactions of up to Rs 2,000 on UPI and RuPay-powered debit cards as protected payment modes.
